Description 

Welcome to the OCR Cambridge course in Sport. The course includes a combination of theory and practical based units, with the majority of students work assessed through the completion of coursework. Students will have an understanding of a range of key processes required to be successful in sport, including the biomechanical principles needed for improving technique and analysing performance, nutrition for sport and requirements for improving performance, sports injuries and rehabilitation required and sports coaching and activity leadership. 

Structure  

Extended Certificate (equivalent of 1 A Level – 360 Guided Learning Hours / 4 lessons per week in year 12 and 5 lessons per week in year 13) 

Students complete 5 units over two years to gain the Extended Certificate. 2 of the units are exam based and the other 3 are coursework based. Practical elements are required for certain units including, leadership of activities and practical performance 

 Extended Diploma (equivalent of 3 A Levels 1080 Guided Learning Hours / 12 lessons per week in year 12 and 15 lessons per week in year 13) 

Students complete 17 units over two years to gain the Extended Diploma. 4 of the units are exam based and 13 are assessed through the completion of coursework. Practical elements are required for certain units including, leadership of activities, practical performance as part of a team / as an individual / through OAA and as an official. 

Course requirements 

You would require a grade 5 in GCSE PE or a Pass/Merit in a sports related vocational course.
