Friesland library is located in the SMT Building close to the main school reception and houses the school’s collection of fiction and non-fiction books, as well as other learning resources.  The library supports the school’s Literacy Programme with library lessons for all years 7, 8 & 9 once every two weeks.

The fiction section of the library is organised by reading level to support the use of the Accelerated Reader scheme which is used across the lower years.  The non-fiction section is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System.

Aside from the library lessons taking place in the library throughout the week, the library is open to all students at break and lunchtimes for quiet reading, silent study, use of the computers for homework, browsing the shelves, and borrowing and returning books.  The librarians are always on hand for any library queries, information or to help students.

All students are issued with a library card when they arrive at Friesland which contains a unique barcode for them.  They can use their card when they are borrowing books, but also to reserve books and browse the online library catalogue which contains details of all the books currently held in the library.  The library catalogue can be accessed using the following link:

As part of their library lessons students are encouraged to quiz on books on the Accelerated Reader scheme once they have finished reading them, and students can access AR using the following link remotely or while they are in school:

The library also contains a set of Kindles for use during library lessons to access AR or the library catalogue, and along with the computers housed in the library, this means that all students have online access available to them during their library lessons.
