For the staff at Friesland success is not just measured in how the students perform when they are with us, but also what they go onto achieve once they leave us.  We have an incredibly strong track record of supporting students onto the next step of their educational or employment journey.

Following an extensive review of provision in 2020, Friesland School has embedded ‘Unifrog’ as a central part of providing a careers and guidance programme that is fit for purpose in the twenty first century. Unifrog is an online facility which provides stage by stage advice and guidance for pupils and students, enabling each cohort to access relevant research and build a portfolio of experience.

Pupils and students are able to develop personalised plans, depending on their interests and skills, leading to a deeper understanding of subject option choices, further and higher education opportunities and potential careers strands. Advice and guidance is available regarding approaches to job applications, presenting CV’s and interview technique.

Alongside Unifrog and the PHSE programme delivered within year groups, Friesland employs an independent careers and guidance adviser who has one to one appointments with pupils and students each week. This provision is provided by TTCT.

Additionally, Friesland works with a range of agencies and employers, including The Two Counties Trust, DANCOP, Rolls Royce, Boots, Siemens, Derby County Community Trust, Oxford and Cambridge University access schemes, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, the University of Derby and the Erewash Partnership to provide insight and opportunities for pupils and students. This includes compulsory work experience in year 10 and year 12. Friesland hosts careers fairs and workshops for year 10 and year 12, which outline routes into further and higher education alongside apprenticeships; within a local, national and international context.

Friesland welcomes the support of Church Wilne Rotary members who regularly offer insight into the nature of the world of work and facilitate mock interviews. Friesland is always keen to offer appropriate access to local bodies and employers where it will be of benefit to our pupils and students.

Y11 – 13 Careers Fair

In the autumn half term after sixth form open evening, we run a careers fair for all our Y11-13 students. This event provides a wide range of workshops for students to participate in, as well as a market place where students can meet and talk to a range of employers about potential careers and post-16/post-18 opportunities.
