Friesland year 13 students Ella, Alex ,Eve and Sophie all played a massive role in leading the Derby County Community Trust to follow up winning the league title, with a richly deserved victory in the cup. The double winning girls did start nervously, at the home of Burton Albion, on a large, bumpy pitch, unlike the smaller, smoother surfaces they have been playing on for the majority of the season. Their opponents, Swindon, had the backing of their vociferous male squad, who were due to play the second final later in the day and these factors meant that DCCT started slowly. However after twenty minutes they started to take more control of the game and totally dominated the second half. Ella scored the match winning penalty after Alex had been fouled and 1-0 was not a reflection of just how dominant the team were.
Eve was characteristically calm and composed, Sophie worked incredibly hard and was a constant nuisance to the Swindon defence, whilst Alex and player of the match Ella did not give the opposition an inch.
Mr Puddy and Miss Bird were delighted to witness the action and the celebrations that followed. Congratulations to the girls, their coach Mike Noon and all of the DCCT girls squad.
