Dear Families,

As we enter September and the new academic year approaches I just wanted to re-send some information and reminders that were e-mailed out back in July and again in August.

I feel that during the academic year 2021/22 we made changes at Friesland that will lead to outstanding student outcomes, alongside supporting our youngsters to become exceptional young adults.  In 2022/23 we will continue with these initiatives, and really focus on ‘employability standards’ as we continue with our ambition of all students accessing the career, further education or training of their choice at 16 or 18.

In September it is really important that our students start school fully prepared to be successful and:

  • Wear the correct uniform every day
  • Are fully equipped for all lessons
  • Are on time to school and all lessons during the day
  • Use respectful language at all times, to both peers and adults
  • Try their best at all times and in all lessons

The purpose of these standards are not merely rules for the sake of rules, but to fully prepare our students for successful careers in their adult lives.  School is not just about today, but ultimately about tomorrow and the amazing things our students will go on to achieve in the future.  Alongside this letter is the full Friesland Behaviour Guide, with the details for the academic year, as well as the many ways we will celebrate our students’ successes in 2022/23.

If, over the next few days, you are concerned about sourcing the correct uniform or equipment for school (details of what is required are on the school website) please get in touch with us and we will support you with whatever you need, as we want all students to have the same chance of success in the autumn.

Throughout 2021/22 I expected OFSTED to visit Friesland School, as they have not done so since 2015.  Whilst surprised it did not happen, I have no doubt that we will be visited during 2022/23, and your views will play a key part in that process and the judgement the school receives.  I would urge all of you to respond to the parent view documentation that will be provided to you when they do come, as I always value your honest and constructive feedback.

At Friesland, our values of Ambition, Teamwork, Honesty and Respect are not just words on the wall, but contribute to a genuine culture and ethos.  I thank you all for the part you have played in helping us build our culture over the past year and wish you all an enjoyable and relaxing final weekend of the summer break.

A reminder also that we are running a staggered start to the year, with the following start dates:

  • Monday 5th September:  Y7 and Y11 (plus sixth form for enrolment only)
  • Tuesday 6th September: All year groups

Yours sincerely,

Craig Patterson
